Hello. My name is ***** ***** I would like to help answer your question as best I can. In my experience, people with autism spectrum disorders are able to show affection, especially to people that they are very comfortable or familiar with. If you are concerned because of the different implications of each of these diagnoses, it may be worthwhile to get another opinion from someone who is knowledgeable of autism spectrum disorders and ADHD who can do a thorough evaluation to rule out one or the other. There is the possibility that he may have both. The problem is that diagnosing both Asperger's and ADHD is often subjective and dependent on the clinicians understanding of the individual's history and their determination as to whether the individual fits the behavioral symptoms significantly enough to be considered as having the diagnosis. The short answer to your question, is yes, children with Asperger's can show love and affection, although they may be generally socially awkward or unaware with people they do not know.
