This will take a while to explain, so apologies for the length of this. My wife and I were in a self-managed super fund with most investments in MLC but for various reasons we decided to cash out of MLC, and move it all to Australian Super. Thus we closed the P&T Scuderi Super Fund bank account as of 30/06/2019. I received a letter from MLC dated 22 April 2020 saying that, due to a mix-up with investments, they would be sending us an ex-gratia payment of $505.71. I know that my bank, formerly the Queensland Country Credit Union (QCCU) and now Queensland Country Bank (QCB), will not bank cheques to a closed Super account into a personal account so i immediately phoned MLC and explained the situation. He asked what i wanted done, I said simply cross out Superannuation Fund. and everything else was the same. He said he would see what he could do, but naturally a week or so later we received a NAB bank cheque made to the Super Fund. I went to QCCU but they had not changed their policy so i went to my accountant for advice. She offered to send back the cheque with a covering letter. I agreed thinking that a letter from her (part of the FINDEX group) would carry more weight. No joy from MLC or NAB. i phoned multiple times and was told each that they would see what they could do. I stress at this time that i remained polite hoping that not being nasty would help. … read more
