Band was involved in...

Band was involved in a car accident where he hit the back of another car, we have been told that we have to pay for the car that he rear ended. My question is, that a 3rd party was involved. The party swerved into the lane with no indicator, into the lane my husband was travelling in, which caused the car in front of my husband to brake suddenly and my husband hit that car in the rear. My husband, the driver of the car he hit and a independent witness, all heard the driver that swerved into the lane admit liability. So far my husband has been told he has to pay the excess on the car he hit. Can we ask the driver that admitted fault to pay for the damage to my husbands car and if so, how do I proceed with the claim
