3 months ago I reversed into a petrol bowser at a service station in Bonnyrigg and caused some very minor damage to the bowser. the top corner of the bowser had a very small section of the metal opened up and there was probably more damage done to my car. At the end of August I hired a removal truck from a local
At the end of August I hired a removal truck from a local Newcastle Car/Truck Rental Company. The rental contract agreement conditions indicated that if any 3rd party damage occurred because of canopy/height limitations that I was liable for repairs/cost. Just before returning the truck, at the local service station (Waratah) I momentarily forgot that the truck clearance was 3.2 metres (service station canopy awning was 3.1) and accidently clipped the awning causing a small dent and popping out a square LED light. I took photos and reported the incident to the truck hire company. This was a distressing time as I was on my way to the hospital with my family and my Uncle died with us present later that evening. Because I was bereaved, the truck hire manager agreed to correspond with the Service Station's Insurance Company (which had sent me a quote for repairs of $3254). When the truck hire manager saw the photos and the original quote (which included $1500 labor hire for a team to travel from Sydney to Newcastle to do the repairs) he agreed that the cost appeared excessive. The manager then sought an independent quote on my behalf from a Loss Adjuster. I've now received that LA's report which suggests the original quote is apt in terms of repairs and cost. But this LA report doesn't seem to consider or mention anything about the repairers traveling for 5 hours (from Sydney to Newcastle) to fix the damage. I live locally (Waratah) and have seen that the light fitting was replaced some time ago - so that repair component has been completed. I'm very concerned that an excessive and unnecessary amount is being added on to the cost of this repair. So, I completely understand that I'm liable for the damages, but I'm also very anxious about being exploited cost-wise. Wondering what my options are regarding getting a 3rd independent quote that considers local repairers for the same job? … read more
