My son has a Ford Ute which he bought from new in 2013. The tensioner on the timing chain let go, causing the timing chain to slip and the result is that the engine is destroyed. Although the 3 yr warranty is up, the car only has 94,000km on it. He has looked after the car meticulously, and it has always been serviced by Ford dealerships. Ford have denied any assistance to have the car repaired. Obviously it is over the 3 yr warranty, but this is a major failure of a critical part that according to Ford never needs to be replaced. We wish to pursue the matter through the Dept of Fair Trading, but are unsure whether we can have the car repaired at this point, or it needs to be resolved before we proceed. My son has had the car towed back to the place of purchase at great expense, and it is going to cost approx. $11,500 to repair. Surely a car costing $42500 should last more than 94000 km???? … read more

Thank you for your time. My daughter has a Toyota Camry that
Hi Pearl,Thank you for your time. My daughter has a Toyota Camry that has only done 134,000 KM and due to a FAILURE with the head gasket. When the engine ceased, there were NO warning lights or anything else to warn her.... the engine just stopped. We have received a quote from Toyota that the repairs will cost $3503 to repair. The vehicle is a 2007 model, and has always been regularly serviced. We sold the Camry to our daughter in 2014, and in the past 3 and half years she has only done some 36,000 km taking her 3 young children back and forth to school. Surely due to a faulty Toyota part, there MUST be SOME responsibility by Toyota to rectify the problem. I cans seperately our initial request to Toyota with the vehicle history, and also their repose that we received this morning. Your assistance in this matter will be appreciated. We are in Brisbane Queensland. Do you have a direct email address please just in case i lose you in our conversation. Thanks. Bill Smith … read more
