Ok, I need further info sadly.
1. what were the defects?
2. is there any clause that states that they will not be liable for any finding that the vehicle was found to be unroadworthy?
On the face of it, they should be liable, as you arranged them to undertake an inspection on the vehicle. If it was as easy for a Police Officer to simply conduct an inspection and defect, then presumably the defects were quite obvious, thus they should make payment to remedy the defects.
