My wife and I have occupied a unit in Sydney that has had
Dear Pearl, My wife and I have occupied a unit in Sydney that has had constant issues with mildew. We have regularly cleaned the walls and ceilings but it returns. I contacted the agent and they sent me a brochure about how to clean up mildew but did not investigate further apart from the periodic inspections. We have moved as a result. Am I responsible to have the walls and ceilings cleaned professionally as these are quite contaminated? I had the carpets and the kitchen and bathroom cleaned. Thanks, … read more

We have recently moved back into our property, whilst we
We have recently moved back into our property, whilst we were in Darwin during this time the property was rented out through an agency. Upon getting the keys back the property was left in a state that we were not happy with, it's dirty, there was shit in the toilets, some of the blinds are damaged the fly screen is damaged on one of the doors. The agency have put this down to fair wear and tear to which we disagree with. They are also refusing to do a full vacate clean, they just want to clean the kitchen, bathrooms, pantry and window tracks. The tenants did a basic clean when they moved out however the house is filthy. I'm not sure where we stand with this and if it is worth getting a lawyer for representation … read more

I rented an apartment and I moved in yesterday. As soon as I moved in I realised that some things in the apartment there are not properly cleaned (oven, garbage bins, mull on the windows) despite the fact that the manager assured me that professionals cleaned the apartment. It is obvious that the apartment was cleaned by the previous tenants and they did not do a good job. I cannot accept it in its current condition. But because of how the real estate agents work I already paid my bond and the first month rent. I will be happy if they bring someone to clean properly the apartment. So, I was wondering what are my rights under the law about this kind of things? … read more
