Both my parents are now in a nursing home, originally my
Both my parents are now in a nursing home, originally my father went in after a stroke 4 years ago, and my mother just recently (approx 4 weeks ago). She is in there as a respite resident, but will need to be made a permanent resident once her 9 weeks of respite care expires. She was recently diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and we are unsure how long she has.My parents are both aged pensioners and do not have any assets apart from the home they were living in, and a few thousand dollars in their savings account. They will now be required to pay an RAD deposit as they are now both residents of this facility. As my Mum's respite will be expiring soon we need a RAD deposit of $600,000 for both. As we don't have this kind of money we will possibly need to sell their home, otherwise a monthly fee of 4.2% of the $600,000, which amounts to $2100 will need to be met. This amount is in addition to the 85% of their pension which is automatically deducted by the facility already for both.I am hoping you will be able to give me some instruction and guidance in what would be the best scenario for them and myself and sibling. I have downloaded an Enduring Power of Attorney Appointment Form, from The Office of Public Advocate, but am unsure if this is good enough. They also need to update their Last Will and Testament dated 6/3/1982. Where can I go for assistant with this? Thank you. … read more
