There is no law requiring you to leave anything your children.

But the law does give the children a right to contest the will. But the time limit is 3 months from the date that probate is granted

You look at Family Provision Orders. This is a challenge to a will

If there is no will then the children will receive a share if the partner f the deceased is not their biological parent. If they are the biological parent then the children do not get anything it goes to the biological parent that is still alive.
