i am the grandparent of a 9 year old little boy and an 8 year old little boy. We have had the two of them living with us, off and on, for the past two and a half years. Off and in as when their dad isn't working and is home (my husband and I live in an adjacent granny flat) he has the boys with him. Their mother is a chronic alcoholic with a mental illness. Sometimes sh is sober but not all the Tim. She and our son are separated. She is abysive, violent and aggressive and doesn't always have to be drunk to be that way. We fear for the boys safety so we rarely let them see her without someone else present although there is no court order to that affect. Just before Christmas, she physically abused both of the boys and our 16 year old Grandaughter had to restrain her. We have seen her be aggressive towards the 8 year old at other times. This little boy has anger problems and behavioural problems and has been under a child psychiatrist. He needs constant supervision and guidance. My daughter in law, the children's mother, has been charged with high range PCA, has appeared in court and received 6 months of no driving, she must have an instrument fitted to her car for two years when she has her license returned, that she must blow into, and a 12 month good behaviour bond. She's been taken away from our house twice by the police. Violent, abusive and has bitten and head butted one officer. On those two occasions she was taken and kept overnight in a public mental health facility but she's also been into a private facility on three other occasions. … read more
