Customer Question
I have recently been...

I have recently been sent 3 final threat notices for fines ( 2 separated offences) ?? from the U. K. I tried to phone and E-mail them when I received the first notice I received dated 8/2/2018 with no answer to either, then a second notice arrived 2 days later dated 25/12018 saying I have failed to pay by the appointed time and are now being charged the "full" amount of 160 pounds. At no stage have I been made aware of what the monetary fees were until receiving these notices, I simply just didn't know what I was supposed to pay, I am a low tech 65 y.o + and have been overwhelmed, they threaten legal action. Since these I have received another parking fine which is another 100 pounds up from 60 pounds because "I haven't paid this one on time", due 6/12/2018, received this notice about 4 days ago. Of course I'm late! Can you give any help? Anything I can do apart from caving in to them. John W

do you want to contest these fines ?

Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I argue that I just wanted to know how much I owed them and I would willing pay these fines, they, at no stage had they notified me of these amounts or charges until these threating letters arrived. How could I pay them when I didn't know what they wanted. I don't want to pay the extra fines they have added. One fine is 40pounds extra and the other one is now 160 pounds up from whatever!! I just don't know???
Solicitor: John Melis, Lawyer replied 4 months ago

the appropriate path to take is to write a formal request for review, carefully presenting the facts of the matter. The department will then assess and advise as to what action will occur whether being review the amount or reducing the same.

I was issued with a parking infringement ($93.00 fine) in
Hi. I was issued with a parking infringement ($93.00 fine) in June if last year. The notice attached to my vehicle said "Offence No.739. Stopped-on a dividing strip Road Rule 197(1). The particular road that I was parked on has no dividing strip, it was in fact the nature strip, both of which are described in the dictionary attached to the Rule. I pointed this out to the council and was later informed that the notice was issued correctly as evidenced by me parking on a dividing strip "separating the road from a parking area". (ie. Not the definition of a dividing strip). I elected to go to court. Now some eleven months later, I have just been informed by the Council that they are proceeding but the wording has been amended to read "stopped on a nature strip". What is my best course of action? Regards. John Mcfarlane … read more

Sorry, I've been charged with a parking offence in NSW (Parking in a bus zone). There are two signs a white sign saying "Bus Zone" and then within a designated are a yellow sign saying "Bus stop school days only. My car was parked during school holidays. Actually I had two cars that were booked. I sought a review and received a caution for one of the vehicles but a fine for the other. I've elected to have this matter heard by the court. I thought that the yellow signed qualified the White sign. I've parked my cars for the past 13 years in the same spot on week ends and school holidays and have never been fine until now. What will happen if I plead guilty, can I have the matter dismissed due to the ambiguity of the signs? … read more
