I am an owner occupier, whose gas hot water system blew up on the 8th October. I firstly contacted my gas company and then my plumber who came out almost immediately and recommended a instantaneous gas hot water product from Rheem, no electrical wiring required which meant I would not need an electrician and it would cost less. I tnen contacted our BC committee chairman who gave consent to the new unit being installed. She asked idf it would be the same as others installed on an outside wall that are gas/electric and was told no, but it would be comparable. I then called our BC themselves and they also gave consent for the unit to be installed providing it was comparable with others. Since it has been installed on 9th October I have received nothing but complaints from the BC & BC Committee, who have conducted meetings, one without my knowledge and the other the usual BC yeasrly meeting, I was not present, and at these meetings have "resolved" that I have the unit removed and replaced with a new one. The unit has a 16ltr watwe tank, (same as others), a lot less in pipiwork, no electrical connection, but does have a flu on the top. This unit cost me almost $6,000.00 and is definitrly comparable with others (remove the flu and it would be smaller). I should point out also that I have recently sold my unit and am moving out on the 16th November so I will only have use of this unit for a little over a month. The new owners have been advised that there has been a new unit installed but to my knowledge havee not viewed it. My question is does the BC have any right to ask me to remove it, and loose $6000,00 in the process, then reinstall a new unit which would cost at least another $6000.00, when there is only the matter of the gas flu that forms the difference. The BC has not advised where they thiink the new unjit should guo, but that I should draw a diagram and submit for approval before a new unit is installed.

Yes, they have been back again as initially the BC instructed me to install a new unit in my courtyard and the installer gave me a quote. (Sorry the installer returned, I have not contacted the manufacturer).
