Hi Pearl, I am in Queensland and a longterm employee 22years. I regularly travel overseas for work losing many weekends traveling. Recently my boss hauled me before HR because I was persistent in asking for time in lieu of weekends lost. Our Employee handbook makes provision for my boss to give me time in lieu at his discretion, for regular occurances of weekends worked. My contract signed in 1995 says my work hours are 8.00am to 4.30pm M-F and that I am required to contribute a reasonable amount of overtime,.....which I do. The problem is that I have been told I will be issued a warning then dismissed if I continue to ask for time in lieu even though company procedures allow my asking. Also have been told that no matter what my boss asks me to do "within reason" if I fail to comply for any reason I will be warned then dismissed. Seems unfair that others in company can rely on having a weekend but I cannot is this discrimination or unfair or ?? … read more
