I work for an aged care employer which has a residential…

Hi I work for...

Hi I work for an aged care employer which has a residential village of a particular culture attached. Although the village is mostly of this culture, across the facility it employs combined english speaking staff and staff of the culture. In my role I have replaced a person of this culture. I have been advised that the residential clients are taking up a position to get rid of me because I am english. There will be a meeting on Tuesday with these residents and I assuming they will present this to the meeting. I have very little to do with the residents apart from scheduling some home help. I have advised my employer that this is discriminatory and have requested they do something about it. My stress levels have increased due to having this information and I would like to know legally what I should do please?

Nothing has been filed as yet but it has been reported to me and management by another staff member who was told by the residents.

Good Afternoon

If you are terminated because you are Anglo Saxon then it is discrimination and you should not go alone to this meeting.

You have a right to have a third party with you as a support person.

If you can get a solicitor or a union representative that would be in your favour.

The law society of QLD can refer you to a solicitor. The law society website is as follows

If you can defer the meeting to later in the week that would be good.

Hi Leon,The meeting is for village residents only and senior management. The meeting is to address all of their grievances which is a regular monthly meeting as a community. My employer has no intention of terminating my employment but I feel that the residents are disciminating against me for being anglo saxon. Do I need to obtain evidence in writing that the residents are discriminating against me and does this become a case against the residents aside from my employer. My employer just feels this is the way these residents behave and we just put up with it because they are used to it Many thanks for your help.

Good Afternoon

You have a right to have a support person they cannot refuse you.

It is inappropriate to put you in this type of position feeling intimidated and the management is encouraging the behaviour. This is wrong.
