My daughter was involved in a minor vehicle accident, Western Australia, involving another vehicle. Rear impact, low speed ( park brake not engaged - rolled into parked vehicle in front ). Daughter advised other driver, who was a friend, that she was at fault and would pay damages.

Days later, while driving to get quote for repairs, the "hit" vehicle was involved in another rear impact accident by another vehicle and sustained considerably more damage, but to the opposite side of original collision. The at fault driver was insured and the vehicle has been taken to be repaired. My daughter was driving her boyfriends uninsured vehicle, in original collision. The owner of the vehicle contacted my daughter yesterday advising that repairs for original impact would be $1300 and that he would be getting vehicle repaired at XYZ repair shop. i have a friend who operates a panel & paint shop who i wished to get a price from as he would be able to give me a better rate. I advised my daughter to reply saying we would pay for repairs but we wanted at least 1 more quote before repairs were carried out. The other driver flatly refused saying he only wanted this company to carry out repairs, as he had used them 5 times previously and the vehicle would already be getting repaired at the premises, due to collision 2. I replied saying that we would not be paying for costs until we had the right to seek another quote. Other driver has now said pay the $1300 direct to him or he will get it done under his insurance and they will chase my daughter for the money. I advised him that unless we were given the opportunity to seek cheaper alternative we would not pay. where do we stand - we offered a reasonable solution and he has adamantly stated he will not look at another repairer - i believe the insurance claim from 2nd impact may be inadvertantly covering our damage and driver is trying to solicit payment from us as additional winfall or that he has done deal with repairer ( who he has prior history or related ) to up the value of our damage. Fraudulant behaviour in my book.
