Unfortunately not. Council is free to issue parking permits for residential purposes as it sees fit, and whilst at present, the council cannot take action for a trailer owner parking in unrestricted parking spaces, they are not obliged to grant permits for trailers.

The following link to the North Sydney Mayor's minutes from 2012 demonstrates the attitude of council to the issue. Unfortunately then, in terms of long term parking, you will either need to park your trailer only in the unrestricted parking spaces, of which there are few, or find a private place to park your trailer.

I appreciate that is not the answer you were hoping for but it does reflect the law as it applies in North Sydney, and indeed, most other municipal councils.

Yes, if you park in a residential parking area your parking permit only allows you to park your car not your trailer, even if it is attached to the car. Under the Road Transport Act 2013 trailers are also defined as separate vehicles are are required to be separately registered. So unfortunately, if council refuses to grant a parking permit for the trailer, you can be fined.
