Hi I am concerned about my grandson who lives in Qld (near Childers) with his mother. His father lives in Canberra with us. There is a court order by Consent between his mother and father stating that he lives with his mother and that each parent have parental responsibility for the child's day to day care whilst the child is in their care. The Court Order outlines the time that his father can spend with him including one half of each school holiday period and each alternate weekend. The Court Order is dated 3/10/2007 when his mother was living in Hervey Bay and his father was living on the Sunshine Coast. Due to work commitments, his father moved back to canberra in 2011 and my grandson visits for one half of each holiday period. He has been enrolled in school under his mother's maiden name even though he has his father's surname (as per his birth certificate). MY concern is that he has been stating for the last couple of years that he wishes to live with his father but his mother will not discuss this issue and has told him that nothing can be done until he is 18. My concerns are many but I guess boil down to stability in his life and mental environment. He has four younger brothers and a sister who have been informed by their mother they do not have fathers (and they all have different fathers based on each time she was pregnant she was with another partner). My grandson is 11 years old. For the last four or five years they have all been living with her parents in Hervey Bay and then earlier this year, his mother packed all the kids up and moved them to a property outside Childers to be with her lesbian lover. I understand from my grandson he lives in the garage, which he tells me, is rat infested and there is no hot water. Last time he visited his father he showed me he had burn marks on his arms from cooking dinner for his younger siblings (not occasionally, every night). He told us he is always late for school because it takes his mother so long to get herself ready. He also told me that he was looking after his siblings because his mother is either on the phone, asleep in bed or on a dating site as her relationship broke down. He also told me that he was unhappy and lonely at school as he has no friends. He recently told us that he spoke to his mother about being unhappy due to his friends being at his old school and her attitude was he did not have to go unless he wanted too. I have since learnt that she has had two boyfriends in the last month and one was harrassing her so she was not answering her mobile and therefore his father could not contact him for a week or so. He also said that they have been evicted from the Childers property and were required to leave by 20th of November and although they did not have a house to go to, they were moving to Bundaberg to be closer to his mother's new boyfriend. This raises concerns for me in relation to his schooling due to the lack of stability and his lack of friends. By moving to Bundaberg, it is harder and more expensive for his father to see him. Under the current arrangements, his father pays for him to fly as an unaccompanied minor from Hervey Bay to Sydney where his father would pick him up. There are no direct flights from Bundaberg to Canberra so he can not travel as an unaccompanied minor and adds additional costs for his father. The flights from Bundaberg fly into Brisbane where he would have to change planes to Canberra but on his own. What options does his father and my grandson in getting to live in Canberra?
