We do not have lemon laws as such in this country but if the car is not fit for the purpose then the manufacturer/Seller has to repair or replace it.

My son has a Ford Ute which he bought from new in 2013. The
My son has a Ford Ute which he bought from new in 2013. The tensioner on the timing chain let go, causing the timing chain to slip and the result is that the engine is destroyed. Although the 3 yr warranty is up, the car only has 94,000km on it. He has looked after the car meticulously, and it has always been serviced by Ford dealerships. Ford have denied any assistance to have the car repaired. Obviously it is over the 3 yr warranty, but this is a major failure of a critical part that according to Ford never needs to be replaced. We wish to pursue the matter through the Dept of Fair Trading, but are unsure whether we can have the car repaired at this point, or it needs to be resolved before we proceed. My son has had the car towed back to the place of purchase at great expense, and it is going to cost approx. $11,500 to repair. Surely a car costing $42500 should last more than 94000 km???? … read more
