I got married in cairo to my egyptian husband in december

Customer Question

Hi. I got married in cairo to my egyptian husband in december 2011. we moved to australia and separated due to family violence 8 months later. The divorce was done through the egyptian embassy so therefore, marriage and divorce are both under egyptian law. so my question is, under australian law, are we required to do a property or not (given it had nothing to do with australia in the first place)

Hello and thank you for your question.

Are there any Australian assets and has a property settlement been made under Egyptian law?
