I need an Australian expert in tax law who can tell me the
I need an Australian expert in tax law who can tell me the following. The property that I would inherit or have gifted to me depending, is real estate only so my question is if in receiving that I would have to pay Australian taxes and if so how much percent would that be and what I therefore have to sell part of the property to pay the Australian government those taxes. A second question is I have always heard that if you have a financial gain in another country but you are a US citizen that you do not have to pay taxes to the US if you pay whatever was owed to the government in the other country. Is that still true? A third question would be what are the tax rates in Australia as well as the United States in one case if it's a gift tax and another if it's an inheritance, and I am not a blood relative. The person in question was not married and has no descendants. Also the value of the property could be around $12 million which is why I'm asking about taxes. A fourth question would be if I were to inherit, from wherever in this case if the property wasn't worth more than five or 6 million and it was passed down in the family there would be no tax. I know that because I just went through my parents passing. But they of course didn't reach that level but I just read it. So if a non-relative gives me that amount by inheritance even if it's US tax would it still be true that the first 6 million is not taxable? And my final question is also to restate what the previous US person told me, If I just decided to go move to that property in Australia and live there as long as I didn't repatriate the sale of the property I would pay no US taxes if I hadn't sold the property is that correct? And then of course for the Australian expert I would need to know if I don't sell the property do I have to pay taxes and if so how much let's say it's worth 12 million. Those are my questions … read more
