After 47 years in the...

After 47 years in the Victorian Rail Industry (Metro Trains Melbourne Pty Ltd) leaving after being deemed 'Surplus to Requirements' emanating from a organisation restructure. I have applied for at least 6 No. positions with another sector of the Victorian Rail Industry (V/Line Pty Ltd) but cannot get past Stage 1 of the selection / interviewing process. I have requested 'Feedback' as to why I was unsuccessful so that I can prepare better for future vacant positions in that company but was declined as applying on-line I had to tick the box to agree that no feedback will be given. Whilst I understand their stance on isolated applications, I do not agree with it as all applicants should be entitled to
'Feedback' let alone applying for a number of positions with the one company; whilst I believe the reason that I am being overlooked is my age and/or over qualified for that position they will not admit to that as a reason why.

Yes Leon and at the time I was declared surplus I asked for another 3 years to achieve my objective of 50 years service in the Victorian Rail Industry but was to no avail and whilst the conditions of being made redundant was that I could not be reconsidered for employment with Metro Trains Melbourne Pty Ltd for a period of 2 years, an alternative way to achieve my objective was to seek employment elsewhere in the Victorian Rail Industry and V/Line Pty Ltd among others was considered and applied for.

Good Morning
If they do not have any other positions then they cannot redeploy you.
to have you re-interview is not correct. You are made redundant and they have to pay you out
If they have jobs and they are offering you them as an alternative is different to asking you to interview.

Leon I am over that now having left Metro Trains Melbourne Pty Ltd on 2nd May, 2014, and more interested in getting an alternate position elsewhere in the Victorian Rail Industry and having applied for about 6 No. positions in V/Line Pty Ltd and cannot even get past stage 1 of the selection / interviewing process and when I requested general 'Feedback' as to why I was selected in advancing to the next stage of the selection / interviewing process was told that feedback is not given as I had agreed with there terms on the on-line application form in that 'no feedback will be given' as per V/Line's Policy, whilst I understand this I do not agree with it as applicants applying for positions expect and deserve feedback enabling them to prepare themselves better in applying for positions in the future. .

Unfortunately there is no requirement for feedback.
You may have to apply the freedom of information act and seek to look at your file.
If you feel you are being discriminated against then you can make an application through the Fair Work

Thanks Leon, I was hoping that V/Line was required to give some feedback when I requested it given that I had applied for 6 No. positions with then and could not get past first base of the selection / interview process. I understand their Policy for a single application but when you get knocked back for a number of positions (low ranking positions at that) how does one improved their next application if no 'Feedback' is given!. As having met the selection criteria for the position in the first instance I cannot understand why but suspect that it is either my age (63 years) and/or I am overqualified for the role. It is so annoying when the federal government is trying to keep people working as long as they can and considering extending the retirement age to 70 years. Thanks again for you assistance.
