The laws cover you and if the car was not fit for the purpose you can sue for a replacement or a refund.

They have a right to repair it and if they do not then you can sue.
The fact the problem exists now if it comes back in the future you are still covered by the laws.
If they take too long to repair then you can seek some compensation form them such as extended warranty or free services for the inconvenience even the cost of a replacement vehicle until they return the car.

my car had to be returned under warranty for repairs to the ignition/ remote sensor(electrical issue) they took 6 weeks to fix the fault and test drove the car which was not necessary as it was the start/stop switch but they clocked up 830kms in 'testing' the vehicle. I finally got my car back with and noticed damage to the tyre and rim. I had a mechanic look over it to ensure nothing else was wrong and he explained that the rim needs repairing before a new tyre can be put on as it will blow out and can cause an accident.
