My wife was dismissed from...

My wife was dismissed from her job on Tuesday 18th by Friday that week she and I were getting phone calls from friends and relatives saying she had stolen a mobile phone from the restaurant she was working at, she returned to the restaurant on Saturday to sort it out and was told the phone had been found and all was OK. The calls kept coming all weekend saying she had now stolen money and it was on video. These false allegations are all over our small community and now the owner of the restaurant has told her staff not to speak to my wife about it for some unknown reason.
This has severely hampered any chance of future employment in our town not to mention the stress it has placed on her. I so want to front these people and demand a public apology but fear i will only escalate the situation. Can we 1-stop the source of the rumours. 2-ask for a public apology?

Was she casual or part time?

How long was she there for?

Was she terminated without warning?

Are the people that are calling prepared to come forward and say who told them the false information?

Hi Leon,

1- Permanent part time.

2-12 months +

3- She was called to the office and asked to work extra shifts on the coming weekend 1 day after the next week roster was posted my wife said she couldn’t and was told that they needed someone more flexible to work weekends my wife left.

She can sue for unfair dismissal for that

It is harsh and unfair

She has 21 days to file with Fair Work.

If the people that are calling iff they can verify who told them and are prepared to come forward and give evidence she can sue for defamation.

If they won't come forward then she has a problem.
