About 6 months ago, I was arrested and charged with 2 graffiti charges, for which I received a fine. After that I made an effort to stop engaging in behaviour that would lead me to a similar situation.

A couple of weeks ago, however, I was at a friend's house and we were drinking. It was at this point we decided to go and explore a lot containing a number of abandoned homes. The block we were on is scheduled for demolition and no one lives on the premises. Myself and two of my friends went exploring and we took some spray paint. During our exploration, my friend and I decided to paint a couple of interior walls with the paint (bear in mind, the houses were already quite destitute at this point, with many broken panels, walls, windows and numerous bits of illicit and unrelated paraphernalia lying about).

As the night continued, my friend punched a glass panel and cut his hand. He began to bleed heavily but we continued due to our inebriated state. About an hour later, my friend decided he had had enough and went to walk home. He had removed his shirt to wrap the cut on his hand and was walking across a road like this when police pulled him up and arrested him. I was trying to catch up, but when the police stopped him I turned around and walked the other way as I've no desire in being arrested on similar charges to those 6 months ago and potential jail time.

Three weeks later, the police called my friend back and wish to set up an interview. They also asked about me by name, said they had my address and asked my friend for my phone number as they wish to speak to me.

I'm scared and concerned. How did they know I was there? They never took prints from me on my initial arrest (although they could have obtained them from cans confiscated from me at the time). How much do they (or could they possibly) know? If I deny my involvement in the event, is there sufficient evidence to prosecute me regardless?

As it stands, the MOST evidence they could possess would be:
- Cans from the scene with my fingerprints on them; and
- Word-of-mouth from my friend that "the scene was already painted when I arrived as I could smell fresh paint".

The former is what worries me the most. I realise I made a huge mistake. I'm expecting a call from police very soon and I have no idea what to tell them - can I just deny involvement completely? They arrested my friend but not me. That said, they may have recovered cans from the scene with fingerprints matching those on the cans from six months ago.

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.
