If the house is in both your names, then you both have a lawful right to occupy it. So you can tell him to go jump in a lake. He can't force you to move out if your name is XXXXX XXXXX title.
As for how much capital gains tax, that is a question for an accountant and not a lawyer. But I agree with you in any event. It sounds like staying put is the best thing to do.
