What I would recommend here is that you make a complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) who can be reached by calling 1800 062 058. Ask them to send out a complaint form to you. Fill it in and return it. Often complaints to the Ombudsman are successful in either significantly reducing the amount needing to be paid, and in some cases having the bill completely dismissed.

Based on what you have said, I think you'd have a genuine complaint here and there would be a decent chance the TIO would rule in your favour.

Should you have any other questions, please let me know.

If you're satisfied with the results of your question, then I'll ask you to please provide positive feedback so that I will get credit for the time spent on your question. Your question can continue even after you leave positive feedback, so if you have any follow up questions please don't be afraid to ask.
