I would contact the law institute of Victoria and make a complaint and allow them to look into the matter for you.
They may be able to make a claim against the solicitor and have them to make some payment as to the fence / extra costs associated.

It is as simple as that really. Most negligent matters with solicitors is about failing to give advice upon such things. She should have little issue, such matters are obvious, it should have been addressed.
