I have a meeting with my GM and OM. I work in the role of Area Manager since 2008. Business has been down recently with referrals due to significant industry changes, hence I have staff on less than half workloads. I have been flagging this since October. We had discussion on what to do. They indicated that they want to employ a person with good proven track of business development to assist, who would solely focus on getting services and business off the ground. I agreed that it seem to be a new strategy worth trying. They said that my responsibilities in relation to business development would go to this person, which I agreed with. They asked me what title would I want to have and I said that it is not a concern what title they would put me under. After the meeting I received an email summarising what was discussed. Half of things that was in that email was actually not what was discussed at the meeting. The upshot of it is that they want me to look after staff in position of a team leader and have billable targets and take on full time caseloads which I have not been doing since 2008. So while no one is saying it - it looks like a demotion from Area Manager role to Team Leader. They offer same pay. Since the meeting on Thursday and Friday email there was no further correspondence. It also stated that my role would be to support this manager but I am suppose to report to that person directly. There is no one else in the company that received a title of Team Leader and they have not provided job description at this stage; statement of duties or contract of employment. The questions that I had are: should I be asking for statement of duties so I have a clear understanding what they are actually planning to do with my role now or should I raise these issues at the time of changeover? I have been with the company for 13 years (in July 2013), if I change to team leader does this mean that I have to resign from my role of Area Manager? It seems that this is demotion due to business downturn but then they are able to offer someone a full time BD role at the same time which is not supporting financial decision making; I have never had any talks with them in relation to my "inability" to generate business and there are strong industry indications across with downturn of business - they offer less responsibilities same pay - where do I stand - are there grounds for redundancy or unfair dismissal? Also, I am so fed up with BS that I was thinking of approaching them with part time work offer - naturally this means that I would not be able to work as AM and since business is down, I think it is going to take them a long time to put me on full caseload so part time option may benefit them - does this mean that my employment continuity with the same employer changes - I presume I would need new contract of employment but since I have been working with them for 13 years, does my LSL benefit restarts with new role?
