I live in a retirement village in North Queensland. Management have written to me advising that 'we have a resident owned cat wandering around the village over the past few months doing damage to residents units, fighting with other cats, aggravating resident's dogs and leaving unpleasant deposits in people's backyards'. The manager also 'worried... that there is a very real likelihood' the cat could be run over.
None of these complaints seem to be about the cat I know and love. I am now being asked to keep my cat indoors at all times or to make my backyard 'cat escape proof'.
I have only been in this village for 10 months. I have a cat which is indoors at night and usually for at least 8 hours a day.
When I met with the sales person (many times) prior to purchase, I stressed I needed to be assured my dog and cat would be welcome in the village. I was given a 'policy paper' which, inter alia, states "If we permit you to keep a cat or dog we can withdraw our permission only if you are unable to properly care for and control the animal, or if your pet creates unreasonable noise or nuisance, attacks or threatens people or other animals within The Parks, causes damage to community property, or if the rules above (size,breed, bell on collar, home after dark, not allowed in enclosed areas, desexed, pet excreta removed) are broken".
As I was confident my pets would not cause problems to others and are always under my control, these requirements did not worry me.
I find it very interesting that the complaints actually mirror nearly all the issues outlined but I have not been given any details and I have no way of substantiating the complaints as I have not been told who the complainants are.

I would appreciate any help you can give but, if you are unable to assist could you at least point me in a direction to get help.
