My wife had accident hitting...

My wife had accident hitting a kangaroo in a 2007 kia rio has approx 210,000 plus km RACQ contacted me today saying car repairable write off. Steve from RACQ said since high km there giving us $5000.00 less $500.00 for a car in which is mechanically and interior is still very good, except for kangaroo damage and from accident it cook the motor. I thought at least we would receive $7000.00 or more. Do you think they went a bit over board on reduction of car

Have you researched online what the vehicle is worth if you were to go and buy one from a dealer having done the kilometres yours had?

Being market value means that they do not have to give you what you think it is worth.

To have your car values the following 2 websites will assist.

The first one charges a fee but the others our free and will give you an idea as to what the market value.

Once you have this information you can discuss it with the insurer and if there is a disagreement as to what the market value is new can then consider taking the matter to the financial services ombudsman for their determination.

Hi Pearl,Thank you for your time. My daughter has a Toyota Camry that has only done 134,000 KM and due to a FAILURE with the head gasket. When the engine ceased, there were NO warning lights or anything else to warn her.... the engine just stopped. We have received a quote from Toyota that the repairs will cost $3503 to repair. The vehicle is a 2007 model, and has always been regularly serviced. We sold the Camry to our daughter in 2014, and in the past 3 and half years she has only done some 36,000 km taking her 3 young children back and forth to school.
