I would strongly advise to not contact the police at all.
He has a right to silence and not to be interviewed or go into a line up.
Deny everything and frankly do not make the police work any easier.
The audacity of this witness. They are painting him into a criminal all on the basis of him walking past a camera somewhere near the car. This is not enough evidence to charge him.
If the police have enough evidence, they will charge him. But on the face of it, they have nothing.
Please accept.

The evidence is simply not enough to charge a person.
If he is charged for arguments sake, he can be charged with malicious damage to property. Such offences carry with it fines and good behavior bonds as penalties.
However considering the situation, even if he is charged, i seriously doubt he will be found guilty based on the lack of evidence.
