I have an issue regarding a credit card company in this case
I have an issue regarding a credit card company in this case American Express. This morning I contacted them regarding my America Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card as I had 9 transactions that had been converted to the "Pay Your Way" program. This is a relatively new initiative from AmEx that provides monthly instalment of payments over either 3 months or 6 months. My concern is that I did not sign up or authorize this typ of instalment program to occur on my card which I pay in full each month. After speaking with Amex they acknowledged that they have provided this feature to all of its customers without effectively gaining authority, I have sinced looked at the process to "enroll" in this program and it is quite an arduous take requiring multiple steps to have this "Pay Your Way" program initiated. The grave concern I have is that I did not authorize such a program to be initiated on my card which therefore means someone on than myself who is the primary card holder has acted on my behalf and of which I did not approve. In this case Amex have accepted they are indeed the ones who activated this on my behalf and choosing the 3 month payment plan option. I have requested someone within American Express with authority regarding thismatter contact me, and I've been told someone would contact me within 10 day. I said this was unacceptable and that I would be seeking further clarification regarding this matter from outside sources. I feel simplistically that this is fraudulant behavour, and seek your advice as to if you have a similar view. American Express have told me that all of their member have been provided this feature and that it is only when customers such as myself call requesting to not be a part of it, they they remove this feature from the card. I find this type of behavour scurrilous and potentially for some card holders a sense of entrapment. … read more
