The work you do is for them and I believe they own the copyright. Unless you have them agree in writing to you showing the work on your website they can sue you.
You need to look at the agreement you have them sign when you do work for them and have it changed.
It should give you the right to show the work and be acknowledged as the designer. Otherwise they are the ones that own the copyright.
You may be able to get away with saying on your website that you contract to them and having a link to their website that showcases the work.
This way you are not showing the work on your website.
If the agreement is silent on copyright then you may still have the copyright.
The key to all this is what you have signed with them as a sub contractor.
