I have been renting for a little over three years. From the
I have been renting for a little over three years. From the time I moved in, I have made a complaint to the estate agent about damages to the apartment. The main one was black moulding beneath my kitchen sink that I worried would affect my health. When they came to repair it last year, they simply glued new wood onto the rotting, moulding wood and there has since been an infestation of roaches. There has also been an on-and-off water leakage in the bathroom ceiling. The water floods the bathroom floor and every day it happens, I would need to place buckets to contain the water, which disturbs me when I'm trying to sleep. I expressed to management that I am recovering from a traumatic event and my inability to sLee as a result of the bucket drips is triggering but heard nothing from them. I eventually decided to move and had no excess to pay rent this month (final month at this apartment). I mentioned that to the agent and added that their inconsistencies have left me uncertain that they will pay back my deposit when I leave. So I requested that they consider my deposit my rental, following which I will pay any outstanding amounts after post-vacating inspection. They said that they would not charge me for the damages in the apartment but have since proceeded to cut off my electricity without informing me this past week. Would it be within my right to report this to the regulatory board? Please advise. … read more

My dad who is 91 had a medical episode on Friday night and had left a tap running as he was walking backwards and forwards trying to clean up something that he had spilt. He was unconscious for several hours and when he came to we was unable to get up and as a consequence of the running tap (and being unaware of a tree root problem in his pipes) he overflowed his sink and flooded his whole unit (a three bedroom unit). He was down on the floor from about 4.00 pm until just after midnight when he finally managed to get himself back up. Due to the lateness of the hour he did not contact us … read more
