hi! i sold my car...

hi! i sold my car with qld rego in wa last december to a backpaker. we fill up the transfer of ownership but using the wa form. he kept all the copy because he wanted to do the transfer on his name in qld because in wa i will have to go to the pits and pay more then doing that in QLD. so we write a hand letter saying that he bougth the car for 3800dollars and he was agre to take care of all the forms to do to put the car on his name. i hade to live the country 2days after so i didnt realy worrie about all the papers. i came back in jun 20010 on 457 visa,and last week i saw the car for sale on gumtree. he was saying the car is registred in QLD but it was very easy to renew it (trough the internet and new rego is coming right at Your home) that what he write on the add!! i asked the qld transport and they say no,because you need a permanent adress and a driver licence so i rung qlt transport and they told that the car still registred on my name. he even renew the rego on my name by asking then to send the new rego in VIC. so i told then to delet this adress. they also told my then if i want to stop the regp i ve to bring them the plate number but i dont have them! what are the concequence for him for having renew the rego on my name with out doing the transfer of ownership,not paying the tax and stamp duty and i guess selling the car on my name? that is indentity theft? so i m coming down to perth this afternoon because i am living in Broome at the moment. so can i do a handwrite letter saying that he sold the car to me for 500dollar and make him sign otherwise i will call the police and let then know about whats going on? i will take the plate number back aswell if he doesnt want the sign!! is leaving the country in 2 weeks he was on working holliday visa. he also selling a camp trailer but registred in ( NT ) so i guess he never did the change of ownership aswell,i will find out for that to! he booked the car for me! but he doesnt know who i am! can you give an advise please king regard stephanemy big worrie is to get an answer asap but i dont know if you going to be able to?i am flying to perth in 4 hours and i will be with the guy in 6or 7 hours*i dont know if you will have enougth time!!i just find your website today

You have a problem in that all fines on that car will issue to you.

Do you have his number or contact details?

yes thats why i am coming down to see him!

and no they are no fine on the car because i already ask the fine center office in Qld

but can you tel me what are the concequence for him?

renewing the rego on my name?

indentity theft

never did the transfer on his name?

so if he has an accident he is in big trouble!!

but what kind of trouble?

selling the car using my name for seller because the car still on my name!

Good afternoon,

You could report the matter to the Department of Transport Queensland and show them the letter that you both signed and also the signed transfer papers.

I am not sure if it is a criminal offence not to register the car in his name but if it is report it to the police in QLD and give them details that he is in Victoria.

Identity theft well is a little difficult but you can say he held himself out to be you.

The car is yours and if you wish to take it back you can. If he then gets his back up he will have to make a move to register it.

But what happen if I take the car back.and he still have the letter as I sold the car a d I recieved some monay for it?
That's stilling?
He is not in Vic but in wa.he asked qld trsp to send him the rego on my name in Vic using a friend adress.
And no I don't have to copy of the ownership transfer because he wanted registred the car in qld to save some money.so I landed all the paper to give him the oportunity to rigth a qld adress for the change of rego

Good Morning,

I am not suggesting you take the car back. What I am saying is that it is your car and you can threaten to take it back.

Do you have a copy of the letter you gave him and signed?
