I do not beleive it will impact on his apprenticeship as he doe snot have to tell his employer.

you should take the charge sheet to a Solicitor and get proper advise on what has to be done.

When apprenticeship papers need to be signed, are you asked to disclose anything like the charges above.

If it asks about charges he has to disclose it.
If it asks about convictions and he has nothing else then the answer is NO
He is best to be honest.
I am not sure if they ask about criminal history.
A Conviction does not occur unless the court convicts him.
