VerifiedThe first step to your son applying for custody, or even just contact orders so he can see his own children from time to time, is for him to arrange a mandatory mediation with a family dispute resolution practitioner. He should call 1800 050 321 to set this up right away.
The the mediation, it is possible that consent orders will be drafted up which establish a framework of when he can see his children. These orders then get endorsed by the Court and become binding on both the mother and your son.
However, if the mediation is not successful, or someone does not show up, then your son will be given a certificate allowing him to apply to the Family Court of Australia for parenting orders.
