Its not unusual for a company of this nature to request an upfront payment, and the terms of sale are consistent with this request.
You do have two areas of protection available to you. The first area is that you are a consumer dealing with a business that has to abide by the provisions of the Fair Trading Act, that is, in short, to deliver to you exactly what you paid for - if you don;t get it, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Fair Trading / Consumer Protection department in your state.
The second area of protection available to you is that you pay by credit card, and if you don't get what you paid for, you can call your credit card company and dispute the transaction and have the money paid reversed back into your accouunt until the dispute is resolved
