I need some help with a rental issue. I was asked to move
My name is***** and I need some help with a rental issue. I was asked to move out as my landlord wanted to move back into the house. The landlords plan about a year ago was to demolish the house and build units on it. This didn't happen straight away. I was told by my rental manager that I had until the middle of June this year before anything would happen. I received an email in February that told me that my landlords circumstances had changed because of covid and he was having financial difficulties meaning he needed to move back in. i had to be out by the 31st of March or sooner if I could. I believed that this wasn't the truth. I thought it may have been due to my rent being late a number of times. I lost my job due to covid and had some trouble keeping up. But I still did my best. Anyway, I found a place to move to and was completely out by the 31st as requested in the email. I have read about the owner move in eviction and it stated that the landlord or a family member MUST move in and cannot do anything with the house for 3 years otherwise it is seen as a wrongful eviction. I never received a notice to vacate and now the house has been bulldozed. It is just an empty paddock now, and it has only been about 6 weeks since I moved out. I'd like some advice please on whether or not I could claim some compensation. I wasn't prepared financially to move in March. I had to use bill/loan repayments to get the bond and rent together and now I'm behind on those payments, which are continuing to add interest. I would like to be compensated for my rent and bond and my moving fee of $400. Can you help me out please as to what to do? Thank you, *****: What state/territory are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.… read more
