A: You should hire a criminal lawyer to represent you in this matter.
But you should be mindful that the CDPP takes these matters very seriously. The fact you thought you had complied with Centrelink requirements and had an honest belief you were entitled to the benefits you received may afford you a defence to the charges.
Q: Is there any way of putting my case to the DPP and having this sorted without going to court?
A: Unlikely.
You will almost certainly have to appear in Court and plead to the charges.
I am sorry, it sounds like you're a good bloke who got caught unwittingly in a bad situation. But at this stage retaining a lawyer is your best course of action.

RE Qld health over payment in 2011. I was aware of
I was aware of overpayment and notified payroll immediately to repay in 2011. They would not accept full repayment immediately then moratorium put on all repayments. I ceased working with Health end of 2011. As it is over 8 years I have distroyed all of my payslips and bank statements.(as recommended by my accountant) Now contacted in feb 2018 to repay amount.
