I have been renting for about 4 and a half years, where the owner is incredibly hard to get to do any maintenance. We have recently had mushrooms growing in our toilet with mould and leaking taps that have never been fixed properly. We were tired of waiting and got a plumber to come and check it out. Turns out the bathroom needs to be renovated and the mould is extremely unsafe to live in. We have decided to move but wondering if there is anything we can do to as we would like to save this month rent to move into another safe home. We have advised the the real estate who have updated the owner and he won't even pay the bill for the plumber we had to arrange for an issue that has been going on for a while now. … read more

I moved to house just over 18 months ago and everything has
I moved to house just over 18 months ago and everything has been going great. There is a chimney and fireplace in the main living room that leaks in heavy rain. I had even taken a video and shown the landlord and real estate agent and was told this was normal. After dealing with with it for the last 18 months I got a tradesman come to look at it and fix the problem if possible. He found out what the problem was and had tried to fix it and has also discovered quite extensive work is required. I passed this information onto the agents with photos and now they are saying because he wasn't qualified or approved by them he needs to come back and undo his work. While doing all of this he discovered a safety issue- there is rain water falling directly onto the main power lines when the fireplace is leaking and the chimney itself needs extensive repair work. I consider this to be a major safety concern as I have 3 children and my elderly father living with me. Shouldn't they be more concerned with the safety and repair if the chimney than whether or not he was qualified?? He was just doing temporary work until it could repaired properly. Thanks … read more
