I had a significant amount in the accumulation phase with SuperSA. I rolled it over into an income stream to help pay off debt with the intention of rebuilding my Super through salary sacrifice - as I have been doing for several years now. Several months after making this decision someone mentioned to me the possibility of a lifetime cap on concessional super contributions. I had never heard of such a thing and a search of the SuperSA yielded nothing. I rang SuperSA. They confirmed there is a lifetime cap and I had exceeded it. I have no idea how I am supposed to be aware of this obscure piece of information. I asked how anyone would know they are approaching their cap - you have ring and specifically ask for a report to be run. I would never have made the decision to roll over funds if I had known about the cap - I would have left all funds in accumulation phase. I will not now be working long enough to replace those funds with after tax dollars. This has completely wrecked my retirement strategy. Is there anything I can do about this ? … read more
