From what you are saying you suffer from a medical condition which is a disabiltiy and the medication has exacerbated the problem
Any disclosure of this to staff would impact on your ability to do your job and should remain confidential.

Now in relation to their request for information from the dr I suggest you get a detailed report from your dr that explains your condition and the medication prescribed and its side effects.
I also suggest that you obtain information form the manufacturer about possible side effect of their product or any material that documents the side effects of the drug.
All of this would make it difficult for them to allege stealing and if they terminate you, you have evidence to argue discrimination.
I hope it doesnt come to that but the more information you have to back what you say the harder it will be for them to terminate you. It is also to your benefit that it was paid back. I can only assume you had moments where the drug did not effect you and you realised what you had done and put the money back.
