I would start by looking t all the connections and wiring at and to the control. It sounds to me like the power is getting interrupted to the control or the control is faulty. Do you have a meter to perform any electrical testing with?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
No I dont but I will have a good clean of the areas today incase there is dusf etc around any of them since it has been sitting for 2 years
Expert:  Kelly replied 9 months ago.

Is it possible that mice may have gotten to the wiring?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I have looked in the section behind the controls and all the wiring in there seems to be all in tact.
Expert:  Kelly replied 9 months ago.

So the main machine control is likely faulty.

May I please have your model number so I am able to provide you with accurate, model specific information?

It tries to start up and you can hear it click but nothing else. How easy is it to replace your self?
Expert:  Kelly replied 9 months ago.

It is pretty easy but you dovneed to observe PCB precautions with grounding, etc. I believe on that model the rear panel on the console comes off for access.
