Hi, welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you! If you are looking at reducing energy costs only, your refrigerator draws 2-3 times as much as a new one does, so replacing it would be beneficial for energy savings.

Thanks, Kelly. (That wasn't hard, was it?). I'd also like an estimate of the difference in emissions. Are the emissions of modern fridges less harmful than the old ones?

The new refrigerant is safer than the old ozone depleting refrigerant. The guidelines for the new refrigerants are much more strict now. The only drawback is the expected life of a new refrigerator is about 10 years, so do not expect the longevity you have received from your old refrigerator.
