I have a new Westinghouse...

I have a new Westinghouse oven
model POP883 and finf that I cannot grill meat properly. The meat takes like it has been boiled, unlike any other grilled meat . The oven steams up greatly and I think the meat is steamed and n ot grilled. Help please

Hello and thank you for your question, I will be assisting you with your inquiry today,

Regarding the meat not tasting like it should regarding the grilling function of your appliance, are you using the conventional method or the fan assisted grilling>??
The different functions will give different results, do you have a user manual for this appliance and if not, I will give you the link to obtain one free of charge. It has all of the different methods of use, cooking times, shelf positions for various modes/foods etc,, and should help you solve this problem. Also, did you do the following when you first got the stove installed..

New appliances can have an odour during first operation. It is recommended to ‘run in’ your oven before you cook for the first time. Run the oven at 180ºC for 2-4 hours and ensure that the room is well ventilated.
• DO NOT line the oven with foil, it will damage the enamel.

These are the manufacturers recommendations for your oven. At least 2 hours would make a difference to the overall cooking results in your appliance and the taste of the foods cooked inside of it. Personally, I think its a bit much really, but thats what they say to do...

Thank you for the reply.

I have a manual and I have followed all of the above ie heated initially as instructed,

do not use foil, do not use fan ( I use function 9 or 10 ), use the very upper shelf.

A great deal of juice comes out of the meat and there is a lot of steam, that is why I have also used the oven with the door open, but still not successful grilling, more like steaming the meat. Can I get direct help from Westinghouse?

Absolutely, I suggest you give them a call and explain the problems you are having. This is a new oven and if you are not satisfied with the results you are recieving, then perhaps they can suggest a solution or there may even be some kind of fault with the oven and they might send someone out to have a look and see exactly what is going on regarding the grilling function...

I have to be honest with you though, I dont think these new ovens are anywhere near as good as the older Australian made ones,,, they were simple, yet effective and reliable.
Your Westinghouse is actually an Electrolux Oven now, badged as a Westinghouse.

May I suggest trying function 10 (maxi grill) on the 2nd highest shelf setting, with the door partially open,, give it a try and see how you go okay
