The spin coil is blown, or the timer is knackered. Either can cause this problem. Usually the spin coil. Tip over the machine, there is an arm which springs in and out of locking the gearbox for wash/spin. Locate the arm, see if it will move in and outwards from the center of the machine underneath. The metal section which had 2 wires going to it, pulls in and out, they blow up and stick. This in turn does not release the bowl for spinning, and so only the agitator spins by itself, causing all the clothes to go into a big ball and the machine goes out of balance and stops, at the beginning of every spin cycle...(wont affect the wash)

If the arm wont move, then the spin coil is blown and needs replacing. About $30 worth. plus around 30 mins of labor.
