Hi, after a manual gearbox oil change, in my 2002 V6 3.2 Rodeo, I can't select 5th gear or reverse. It seems like something is blocking the gear lever from going across into those gears.

Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?

I believe its the original gearbox, so 16 years old. I did take out a bolt from the passanger side of the gearbox, up quite high. I originally thought it might have been the filler plug! No, what does the brake switch have to do with the gearbox?

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model of your car?

Holden Rodeo, single cab, RWD.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Cab yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes I am. Haven't tried anything yet. Its got me puzzled after a simple oil change.

The issue was the bolt that you removed from the case, which held internal linkage. Removing the bolt allowed internals to fall out of position. You can try removing it again and see if you're able to look into the case and possibly realign everything, but there is little chance of repairing this without removing and disassembling the transmission.
