Hello and welcome to Just Answer

I'd say the next step is to drain the oil off, remove the sump pan and clean out the filter screen as this sounds like there's a lack of oil pressure caused by a clogged filter

then when you refill it ensure that its the right fluid . Some manufacturers recommended a change of the type of fluid - Speak to the local dealer and parts dept - they will advise you on the updated fluid to use..

Thanks Matt. Ihave drained the trans and all was clean. Fitted new oil and is a little better.
If the screen was clocked it should effect the forward drive too?
AU Auto Mechanic: Matt, Engineer replied 4 months ago

Hello

a choked filter will usually effect all the gearshifts, but sometimes you can have just 1 solenoid that ends up more clogged / stickier than the rest

so the next step would be to try a replacement solenoid for the reverse gear
