Our Terracan 2005 2.9l...

Our Terracan 2005 2.9l CRDi suddenly lost power and there is no power above 1st gear and it seems to have small surges in power and the temp gauge rose above normal and then came back down

Nothing yet we will go to a mechanic but we have been caught out before with them trying all sorts of other things before finding the real problem and we are concerned we will damage it further by driving to town 22km

There are quite a few things that could be causing the lack of power and it's going to require some testing to determine exactly what is going on. You may have a fuel quality or fuel delivery issue such as a restricted tank pickup or restricted fuel filter. You could have a sensor issue such as a bad coolant sensor or mass airflow sensor, the problem may be injector related, you may have a turbo issue or a boost leak.

The first thing that needs to be done is check for fault codes and go from there. There may be related fault codes set that will give a starting point for testing, if not then data is going to need to be monitored to know what direction to go.
